Newton Purcell church

The church of St John the Evangelist, Milton, was built in 1856–7 after the design of W. Butterfield. The builders were Franklin & Hopcraft and the site was part of the vicar's glebe. The church comprises a nave, south porch, and chancel. It is in the early Decorated style and has a small central tower with 2 bells. Electric light was installed in 1948 and repairs supervised by J. M. Surman, architect, were carried out in 1953. The church plate and bells are 19th-century. The east window is by F. Preedy of London.
